Barchie’s Spareribs Factory : The Bottom Line
If you’re in Kamakura, and are in the mood for something to eat and drink, head here. I would recommend Barchie’s Spareribs Factory to anyone who likes craft beer or tacos. Perhaps even over Barchie’s Kamakura in spite of the latter coming first in the small chain. Perhaps the only downside to this place is that it isn’t cheap, but sometimes you’ve got to pay for the good stuff. The atmosphere is chill with some gentle background music. The whole place is non-smoking, has no table charge, as well as free wifi.
Barchie’s Spareribs Factory : Background
Barchie’s, linked above, is a popular restaurant in the area. So much so, that at times, the wait to get inside was too long for some – including us! Due to popular demand, this second branch opened in November 2023 and has also proven to be popular.
Barchie’s Spareribs Factory is in Kamakura city, in between JR Kamakura Station, and Wadazuka on the Enoden line. The bar is about a 10 minute walk from both stations.
Barchie’s Spareribs Factory : Atmosphere & Interior
As you approach the bar, you’ll notice that you’re in a residential area, yet the smell builds up as you get closer. It’s kind of unusual to have such a vibrant place located here, but on the day I went, there were plenty of locals here. There were lots of conversations going on, with plenty of space inside for small and large groups. Though it was only me, I got the largest table funnily enough. Inside, there is space for around 20 people, with some overflow area that a staff member was using. Additionally, there is also an outside terrace area, for dogs, with space for around 10 people there.
Behind the bar space, you can see the factory area where the meats are prepared and smoked. However, there was barely any smell inside of the smoke. On top of this, there was some faintly familiar music in the background – it sounded very similar to the playlist at Btaps Kamakura. Finally, there is no table charge and the whole place – inside and out – is non-smoking.
Barchie’s Spareribs Factory : Beer & Tap Information
There are five taps on at the bar, with four taps for craft beer and one for cider. All the beers came from local breweries from the Kanagawa area. On the day, this included Barbaric Works, Yorocco Beer, Passific Brewing, and Anglo-Japanese Brewing Company. All the drinks come in the same sizes and same prices. 300 ml for ¥990 and 500 ml for ¥1,490. The prices are perhaps more than I’d like but the pours are top notch. There is also a small beer fridge at the bar, with cans for takeaway. If you drink the cans in-store, then the corkage fee is ¥300.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t any happy hour plan or drink as much as you want plan, nor any beer flights. A shame really as I wanted to try all the beers on the menu.
Barchie’s Spareribs Factory : Food & Menu Information
Just come here for the tacos ok. Yes, there probably are chips on the menu but take a look at those tacos. Freshly made on some amazing corn tortillas. Perfectly seasoned with a juicy piece of pineapple on top, and some salsa verde on the side. The only downside is that you get two and I really wasn’t hungry. If I had been, then I would have gone for the six taco serving and been left happy. There are a few vegetarian options on the menu, with the basics being in English.
For those that love their ribs, you can also get these to take away from the fridge, as they have been vacuum sealed. Not a bad idea if you’re heading down to Yuigahama for a beach trip.
