Owaricho Beer Stand The Bottom Line
Owaricho Beer Stand is pretty much the idea kind of standing bar for BeerTengoku – no air of pretentiousness, just beer on tap with some snacks to go. It’s very easy to pop in here for one, but end up staying for more, especially as there is no table charge (it is a standing bar), prices include tax, the whole bar, inside and out, is non-smoking, and there is free wifi too. The only downside to Owaricho Beer Stand is that it’s cash only, so make sure you have some before drinking. Moreover, all the menus are in English too if you ask for them.
Owaricho Beer Stand The Full Review
It’s not often we come across a new bar by chance on our travels – these “trips” to new areas are researched both for opening hours and location with other bars. So when I came across Owaricho Beer Stand on a walk from Korinbo to Higashiyama, I had to do a double-take. It wasn’t on the BeerTengoku map, nor could I find anything out about it. But it existed as it was right in front of me. It turns out that Owaricho Beer Stand opened in November and probably ranks as one of the smallest craft beer bars in Japan, let alone Kanazawa. It’s only a 15 minute walk from Kanazawa station as well, so perfect for a quick one before a stroll back to the shinkansen station.
Owaricho Beer Stand is an all-standing bar; however, there are some basic stools if you’re a bit tired or in need of a break, but don’t expect them to be set up when you get there. There is space for about 15 people inside; though there is a little bit of an outside drinking area by the door. As it’s all standing, there is no table charge and the whole place is non-smoking – both inside and in the immediate vicinity of the bar as two people found out when BeerTengoku was there. There is also some free WiFi with the login details posted on the bar.
There are eight taps on at Owaricho Beer Stand with a split between domestic and imports; however, the former outweighs the latter. The beers come in one size: 250ml from ¥630 to ¥700 but the prices do include tax. With one size of beer, there are no beer flights available and no happy hour either – but Owaricho Beer Stand isn’t the place for lingering around for a session. Most people came in and had two or three drinks before paying and leaving.
As the bar is small, there are only basic snacks on at Owaricho Beer Stand, along with some fried foods too. The menus are in English if you are ask for them, but, like the Japanese menus, they lack any detailed information about the food. Most of the food is simple snack food, such as fried chicken, some beans, and some potato salad. You don’t come to Owaricho Beer Stand to fill up, rather just something to pass the time until you can get something more substantial.
