WPU Beer Diner : The Bottom Line
WPU Beer Diner suffers the fate with most other places in the area of Shinjuku – pricey beers that can be found for much cheaper if you travel a bit. And that’s a shame as I liked the vibe inside this place. I’d go back again but on someone else’s credit card. The whole place is non-smoking and has no table charge but at the prices for beer here, that’s not a surprise really.
WPU Beer Diner : Background
WPU Beer Diner opened in March 2023, and is located less than a 10 minute walk from Shinjuku station – well it could be quicker if you know where you’re going as I hate Shinjuku station with a passion as I always get lost / confused about which exit to take. It’s located on the first floor of the WPU Hotel so you can drink too much, and then just stumble upstairs to your hotel – convenient I guess.
WPU Beer Diner : Atmosphere & Interior
As you approach the bar, it’s exterior sets up the interior well – a funky outside mural adorns the wall and as you enter, you’re greeted by an open and airy space with over 50 seats at various combinations of tables and wall sofas. You can sit right in the middle for maximum exposure, or perhaps against the walls for a quieter conversation or date. I was sat in the middle at the most rickety table, always on edge if my beer was going to fall off the table.
It wasn’t loud on the day I went here, some excellent classic rock was being played, though they do have DJ nights here from time to time. The whole place is non-smoking and there is no table charge at WPU Beer Diner either. In spite of it being rather late in the day, this place is also family friendly as I noticed some young children happily playing some Switch in the corner of the bar. There is also some free Wifi with the information found on the menus.

WPU Beer Diner : Beer & Tap Information
WPU Beer Diner has sixteen taps of craft beer to choose from, with a varity of styles and breweries on tap, so there’s something for everyone here. Beers come in two sizes : half pint (240ml) from ¥790 and pint (470 ml) from ¥1,400; however, most of the beers were a lot more than that. And that’s the biggest issue with this place – you’re going to be paying a lot for beers that you can find for much cheaper in the area.
It’s a shame as there were plenty of beers I wanted to try but there was a beer flight that gets you three 140 ml pours for ¥1,800. I didn’t see that until the end of drinking so I would have got that instead, so I guess there’s a reason to go here in the future.

WPU Beer Diner : Food & Menu Information
I wasn’t planning on eating much here as I was heading out for dinner later, but I went for some falafel instead of the usual chips. I know, I am letting down the side but once I start with chips, I just can’t seem to stop. The falafel were light and fluffy for sure. The menus are both in English and in Japanese, which makes sense with the hotel upstairs, and all the prices include tax too.
