Nomimonoya (Takamatsu / Kagawa)

Nomimonoya : The Bottom Line

Nomimonoya is in the middle of nowhere but I am so glad that I got to this place as it really is an oasis in a desert of craft beer bars. While the range of taps is small, the amount of beers in the fridges is varied and well priced with beers to drink in or takeaway – though be warned, there is a corkage fee of 30% of the price of the beer if you do decide to drink in-store. The whole place is non-smoking and there is also no table charge.

Nomimonoya Inside

Nomimonoya : Background

Nomimonoya is a small café / bottle-shop / bar located in the Busshozan of Takamatsu, Kagawa. Since opening its doors in November 2019, the store has built a reputation as one of the area’s most unique and welcoming spaces for people who appreciate high-quality beverages, local charm, and a relaxed, intimate atmosphere. The name “Nomimonoya,” which translates roughly to “the house of drinks,” reflects the shop’s philosophy: a place where anyone can enjoy thoughtfully selected drinks at their own pace.

Nomimonoya operates with intentionally flexible, irregular hours, which contributes to its reputation as a “local secret” — best visited with a quick check of social media for the latest schedule.

Nomimonoya : Atmosphere & Interior

As you approach Nomimonoya, you walk down an historic old street with no indicator what lies ahead in the bar. When you step in though, you’re greeted by two large fridges of craft beer, and a clean white environment with some dark brown wooden beams and pillars to support it all. I love little places like this – retaining the historic charm of the original building, yet bringing something new inside.

Inside, there is space for around eight people at various seats around the bar, with seats mostly along the bar, and a few spots at the standing area by the entrance. The whole place is non-smoking and there is also no table charge either at Nomimonoya. There is also free Wi-Fi that you can connect to with the details around the bar.

Nomimonoya : Beer & Tap Information

There are three taps of craft beer on, though on the day that I went, two had kicked so I was left with one choice. The beers come in a variety of sizes, based on 1ml, and in 100 ml units, up to 500 ml. If you order less than 500 ml, then beers are ¥47 per 10g, then if you order over 500 ml, then beers are ¥40 per 10g. A werid way to measure the beer but it seems to work for them.

The store offers an impressive range of craft beers, both Japanese and international, showcasing small breweries and seasonal releases. In addition to beer, customers can find craft gin, mead, and a variety of soft drinks. The shop is also known for serving specialty coffee and espresso, making it equally appealing to non-drinkers or daytime visitors. Many items are available for both in-store enjoyment and take-home purchase, allowing customers to discover new favorites and bring them back to share. However, there is a corkage fee of 30% of the price of the beer to drink in-store.

Nomimonoya : Food & Menu Information

If there is any food, then I missed it as I wasn’t offered a menu. The menus are all in Japanese though, though the owner does speak some English – which I only found out after we had been talking in Japanese for about 45 minutes! Finally, all of the prices include tax.
