Craftrock Taproom Takao (Takao / Tokyo)

Craftrock Taproom Takao : The Bottom Line

Though we attended Craftrock Taproom Takao as part of their pre-opening event, it was under the proviso that we could provide our honest thoughts in a review. With that being said, Craftrock Taproom Takao is going to be a big hit for those who are in the area and wanting a decent beer after a hike, or even better, after a hike and a sauna. The prices, which are listed on the menus, are reasonable though with the beers being made next door, that makes sense. The whole place is non-smoking and has some free Wi-Fi along with beers to takeaway as well.

Craftrock Taproom Takao : Background

Craftrock Taproom Takao opened in July 2025, and is the second brewery in the Craft Beer Market chain, with the original one being at Craftrock Brewpub in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Talk about a change of scenery – you go from a city with the hustle and bustle all around you, to some luscious greenery in the western parts of Tokyo. This is also the larger of the two breweries, and we did a small tour of it, which can be seen on our Patreon account here.

Craftrock Taproom Takao : Atmosphere & Interior

There are two floors to Craftrock Taproom Takao; however, on the day we went, only the first floor was open to drinkers. It seems to follow the decor of other bars in the Craft Beer Market chain – lots of white tilling, and brown wooden colours on the first floor. Yet the second floor houses the sauna area as well as a much more greyer looking area in comparison.

The first floor has space for around 15 people, seated at the long benches against both walls, so be prepared to share the space with others. The second floor has space for around 30 people, and both floors have free Wi-Fi available for people to use. There’s no mention of a table charge anywhere though next time we go, we’ll update this review as other bars in the Craft Beer Market chain do operate a table charge.

Craftrock Taproom Takao : Beer & Tap Information

With this being the taproom for Craftrock, you can expect all of the beers to be their own efforts. There are eight taps, with seven of those dedicated to craft beer, and there was decent variety of beers on tap when I went. The beers come in two sizes : regular (280 ml) from ¥800 and large (500 ml) from ¥1,100 – not bad considering where we are. Moreover, the beers can be bought to takeaway, with growler fills, and also some cans coming along soon, once the canning machine has been installed next door in the brewery.

I didn’t notice any happy hour, nor were there any options for an all-you-can-drink plan on any of the menus I saw. Probably a good idea as you don’t want to be drunk before going up a mountain, or after having had a hot sauna.

Craftrock Taproom Takao : Food & Menu Information

On the day we went, there was no food on offer, but the second floor has a place called 36 Kitchen that has a variety of food on the menu. The menus have some English on them, and the prices include tax.
