Urashima Brewery : The Bottom Line
I loved being proved wrong and with Urashima Brewery, I was proven well and truly wrong. I was expecting some iffy, backwater beers from so two-bit brewery that has tacked onto the craft beer scene, passing off poorly made beers to locals who don’t know better. What I got though were some extremely well made beers, from people who care about what they are making, and also drinking, in a place that deserves to be visited. And that is the only downside to this place – it’s really off the beaten track, which is a shame. I’ll definitely be coming back here again when it’s open and I’m in the area, and you should visit here too.

Urashima Brewery : Background
The brewery takes its name from its neighbourhood, which is itself associated with the Japanese legend of Urashima Tarō. Rather than being located in Yokohama’s better-known brewing districts, the brewery is tucked into a residential area in between JR Koyasu and Keikyū Kanagawa-Shinmachi Stations, less than a 10 minute walk away from both locations, giving it a distinctly local character. The brewery began operations in November 2023, making it one of the newer additions to Yokohama’s expanding independent brewing scene.
Since then, Urashima Brewery has become increasingly involved in Yokohama’s growing craft-brewing community. In November 2025 it joined the newly established Yokohama Craft Beer Association, alongside other local breweries and organisations. By 2026, it was also participating in larger city events, including the Mosaic Craft Beer Festival in Kohoku. Before establishing Urashima, Kobayashi-san gained brewing experience at Vector Brewing and Iwami Beer, developing his skills at two established Japanese craft breweries. He obtained Urashima Brewery’s brewing licence in April 2023 and brewed the brewery’s first batch in June, with the first beer completed in August.
Urashima Brewery : Atmosphere & Interior
As you approach Urashima Brewery, walking along Hama-dori, with Route 15 on one side of you, and the reclaimed land on the other side, you can’t help but wonder how a brewery came about in this location. As I wandered along the street, I really thought that I had taken a wrong turn, or perhaps someone had played a joke on me. Is there really a brewpub in this small residential area? No queues, no signs. Yet it suddenly appears in front of you.
Inside, Urashima Brewery is a standing only bar, with shoulder-to-shoulder space for people to drink at. It’s a small place, perhaps designed for people to come in, pick up a beer or two, then be on their way. There’s no music, no wifi, it’s a simple place to come in and drink, and talk with other people here. And that kind of atmosphere comes from Kobayashi-san, the head brewer, having visited the UK and liking the pub atmosphere there. The whole place is no smoking, and as there are no seats, well then that means that there is no seating charge either.

Urashima Brewery : Beer & Tap Information
At any one time, there are six taps of craft beer on, with all beers coming in 200 ml sizes from ¥700 with tax included. There is also a three beer flight, that gets you any three 100 ml beers from ¥1400. The beers are also available to takeaway in bottles, though it does depend what is in stock at that time, as on the day I went, the bottled beers also encompassed beers that weren’t on the menu.
Urashima Brewery : Food & Menu Information
There’s a few snacks here but I advise getting some food before coming here. The menus are mostly in Japanese, though there is enough English in the bar to order some beers. Perhaps the only thing you won’t know is the name of the beers.
