Neighbors : The Bottom Line
The main issue I have with Neighbors is that it’s so expensive. Moreover, there’s better places in the area, if you’re prepared to walk a little bit. The atmosphere is nice and cosy though and I was made to feel welcome – guessing that’s the idea behind the name. Yet to pay so much for a beer that I know I can get for a lot less in Yokohama kind of stung. A shame really. Thankfully has no table charge and the prices include tax. The whole place is non-smoking.

Neighbors : Background
Third time’s a charm for this place. The bar is in its third iteration after both Xrosk Shonan Pintxos Bar and Rudy Brew were unable to make it in Kamakura. In spite of being close to the station, it’s almost at the wrong end of Komachi Dori as there is very little foot fall around the bar. Rudy Brew underwent a renewal and reopened as Neighbors in January 2023, in time for the “reopening” of Japan post-COVID.
Neighbors is located less than five minute walk from Kamakura station, at the south end of the east bus station area. The bar is easy to find – its dark decor a stark contrast against the vibrant colours around it.
Neighbors : Atmosphere & Interior
Though the bar underwent a renewal from its previous iteration, it still seemed rather dark inside. The bright lights did go someway into making it seem a little less dark. However, I can’t help but think back to Xrosk and how much nicer it looked like – though that was nine years ago now. Inside, there is space for 13 people, with five at the counter, and then another 8 at the tables. There are some standing tables outside; however, noone was brave enough to stand out there in winter. There is no table charge either, a good sign for the later. Finally, it is non-smoking.

Neighbors : Beer & Tap Information
There are ten taps of craft beer available, though only nine were on when I went. The beers varied enough in style, so there is something for everyone; however, the prices are not for everyone. That was the main sticking point with this place. The beers come in three sizes : 150 ml from ¥600, 300 ml from ¥1,050, and 473 ml from ¥1,350. Thankfully, the prices do include tax as I almost choked when I saw them. In spite of the high prices, there is no happy hour, nor any beer flight options. At least the pour was decent as believe me, if I had more than 0.5% head on the beer, it would have been sent back and topped up.

Neighbors : Food & Menu Information
The food is nicely varied, with options for vegetarians. I had the lotus root chips, and they were seasoned perfectly. The menus were in English as well, so that makes it easy for everyone to understand.
