Grandline Brewing : The Bottom Line
Grandline Brewing is a worthy addition to the craft beer scene in the Yokosuka – and it does need more additions for the area. I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere in here, even if it wasn’t busy there were friendly conversations going on, and the outside drinking area is perfect for some chilld beers. There’s a decent number of taps on, with almost something for everyone, but make sure you come with some form of non-cash payment – it’s all electronic money. The whole place is non-smoking, is both family and dog friendly, and there’s also some beers to takeaway if you want.
Grandline Brewing : Background
Grandline Brewing opened in October 2023 and at the time of writing, is the newest brewery in the city. It’s surprising how Yokosuka only has two breweries, and barely double that in terms of craft beer bars. Grandline Brewing’s ethos is crypto beer – whatever that means I have no idea. Perhaps it’s a term that the youth of the world use so it’s gone amiss on me.
Grandline Brewing is located about a 10 minute walk from Keikyu Yokosuka Chuoh station, on the Keikyu main lin. It’s just around the corner from Mikasa Park – one of the main tourist areas in the city – and also near to the US Yokosuka Naval base in the area.
Grandline Brewing : Atmosphere & Interior
As you enter Grandline Brewing, you’re greeted by a small window that peers into the on-site brewery. Its glistening stainless steel tanks entice you in, but that’s about all you can see. The bar itself isn’t large – with space for about four people at the window seats, and also another four seats outside for families and dogs – that’s right, the bar is dog friendly! A big bonus there. There’s no table charge – perhaps because there aren’t enough tables to do it.
The interior is something like out of Jet Set Radio / Jet Grind Radio with lots of LED lighting. It’s quirky and I liked it a lot. There was some gentle background music playing – enough to be heard but not enough to drown out a conversation.
Grandline Brewing : Beer & Tap Information
For those that hate paper menus and QR Code menus, well Grandline Brewing tops it off with a single iPAd menu that makes things unnecessarily awkward. It’s a minor quibble really as you can use the QR code to find a menu but by that point, you’ve probably scrolled down and up the iPad menu to order something. There seemed to be 10 taps of beer behind the bar, but only a few were on when I went.
The beers come in two sizes : half (265 ml) from ¥800 and pint (480 ml) from ¥1,300 with prices including tax. The prices aren’t cheap, considering the beers are brewed next door, but with the amount of hops going into the beers, it’s not a surprise really. There wasn’t an option for a beer flight, nor were there any happy hours prices. However, there is the option of takeaway beers in the fridge at the side of the bar.
Grandline Brewing : Food & Menu Information
Um, there were some nuts? That’s it! The menus were in both Japanese and English so you’re sorted there I guess.
