Craft Beer Sloth House The Bottom Line

While Craft Beer Sloth House is a nice, cozy little place to have a beer or two, the prices means that those beers end up being very expensive, and you could just use the extra cash instead to get a train to either Ebisu or Yokohama, and save yourself some money in the process. It’s a shame as Tsunashima could do with some craft beer places to help it stand out from the towns around it – but that’s the price you pay for being in a commuter town. In spite of the costs, Craft Beer Sloth House does have some range in terms of variety and food, with beers also available for take away. If you are eyeing up the cans, then those too can be taken away, but you pay a price for wanting to drink them on site. The whole place is non-smoking, has no table charge, though I didn’t notice any WiFi. If you don’t read / speak Japanese however, you may have some issues with the menus as they were all in Japanese.

Craft Beer Sloth House The Full Review

In my adventures around Kanto on my bike, I had decided to cycle over to Tsunashima for some bike parts and a river ride, when I stumbled across Craft Beer Sloth House. I wasn’t too sure about it – the front isn’t the most obvious point of reference in town, but it was open, the day was hot, and my thirst was strong. Craft Beer Sloth House opened in September 2019, and is located about 10 minutes south of Tsunashima station, on the Toyoko Line.

Craft Beer Sloth House Inside

Craft Beer Sloth House Atmosphere & Interior

While the front of Craft Beer Sloth House may not stand out, the inside does as it feels like you are walking into a small cave. The entrance is rather low and narrow, so you tall readers make sure you duck, and then opens up into a wider seating area. With very little light getting in, there was a worry of too much artificial light overly saturating the bar; however, that wasn’t to be the case.

Inside Craft Beer Sloth House there is space for 18 people, with two tables of 4 in the middle of the room, and then 2 separate counters – one by the wall as you go in and another by the bar – that can seat 10 people. There is no table charge at Craft Beer Sloth House – and with the beer prices, it’s not a surprise – and the whole place is non-smoking too. I didn’t notice any wifi in the building either.

Craft Beer Sloth House Approach to Covid-19

Craft Beer Sloth House had pretty much one of the most stringent approaches to Covid-19 since the pandemic kicked in. The whole place has been divided up, with plastic sheets between individual seats, while groups must book in advance and sit together. On top of this, there is plenty of alcohol spray, temperature checks, and all the staff were wearing PPE.

Craft Beer Sloth House Beer & Taps Information

Craft Beer Sloth House has 8 taps of beer on, with a heavy leaning towards domestic brews. There is also one tap of Suntory, for those with non-craft drinking beer friends, so you can bring them along here, while you drink some quality brews. The beers come in a variety of sizes and, of course, prices: half pint (240ml) costs from ¥760, regular (380ml) from ¥1,000, and then US pint (473ml) from ¥1,450, with none of those prices including tax, making Craft Beer Sloth House an expensive place to drink. We have a magic ¥2.1 per 1ml at BeerTengoku, and with Craft Beer Sloth House at ¥3.4 per ml, then it’s probably right at the top end of prices. There is no happy hour or beer set at Craft Beer Sloth House, though the beers can be bought to drink off-site, but be warned, it’s even more expensive to buy the beers. There are also some cans on sale, which are primarily for off-site sales, though if you do want to drink them in the bar, there is a ¥300 corkage fee for the pleasure.

Craft Beer Sloth House Food 1

Craft Beer Sloth House Food

Craft Beer Sloth House prides itself on the variety of food they have, with its bistro style ambience hiding the fact that they yes, do in fact have chips. There is a variety of options at the bar, with smaller meals for kids, and larger meals to be shared, with curries, French food, and pastas on the menu. In spite of the plethora of meat options, there are some vegetarian options, besides chips of course, but the biggest downer is that all of the menus are in Japanese, so make sure you are with someone who can read, and speak, Japanese, else you will be going hungry and thirsty.
