TK Brewing in Kawasaki, Kanagawa

TK Brewing The Bottom Line

TK Brewing is definitely the better of the two brewpubs in Kawasaki and offers up some excellent beers at reasonable prices. It might be an unusual location – well it did appear to be in a food court in a residential area of Kawasaki – but don’t let that hold you back. If you’re in Kawasaki and want something different, then definitely get along here for the beers. The whole building is non-smoking, has free WiFi, and there is no table charge. On the days that Takabayashi-san is there, then he can help you with some of the beers as he does speak some English.

TK Brewing The Full Review

TK Brewing, stylised as TKBrewing, officially opened up in January 2018, and BeerTengoku popped along for the opening party with a couple of friends who knew Takabayashi-san, which if you hadn’t had guessed from The Bottom Line above, named the brewery after himself. He is also generously splashed over the Facebook page, looming in front of the stainless steel fermenters. Heck, if you had your own brewery, then you would too.

The brewery is located about 10 minutes south of JR and Keikyu Kawasaki station in a building called Unico – what appears to be a cooperative of bars, cafes, and shops that work together. As such, TK Brewing itself is located in one of the units at the front, with a small hatch to order beer but you can buy the beers and drink anywhere in the building, perhaps to the chagrin of the other places there. The building does have WiFi, is completely non-smoking, and also has no table charge.

Takabayashi-san has plans for ten taps of beer, though when BeerTengoku went, there were four on. And the beers are excellent – heck, if Takabayashi-san carries on with the ones he has then he is on to a winner. The prices varied from ¥550 to ¥650 for 250ml, but all the prices included tax. The only disappointment was that the beers didn’t come in larger sizes but due to a lack of cleaning space plastic cups are used.

In terms of food, the cafe next door does serve some food up but it’s pretty pricey and also quite small for what it is.
