TDM 1874 Kannai (Kannai / Yokohama)

TDM 1874 Kannai : The Bottom Line

I’ve never had a bad time, or beer, at any branches of TDM 1874 Brewery and with TDM 1874 Kannai, that trend continues. This place is perfect for a couple of beers either pre- or post–BayStarts games. While it’s not the easiest place to find the first time you go here – believe me, I got lost in spite of all the maps – the second time is a lot easy. This branch is the smallest of the bars, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up in the beers and some of the food too. The whole place is non-smoking, has no table charge, and there is also some free Wifi in the building.

TDM 1874 Kannai Inside

TDM 1874 Kannai : Background

TDM 1874 Kannai is the fifth in the slowly grain chain of TDM 1874 taprooms, with TDM 1874 Brewery having locations in Tokaichiba, Shimokitazawa, and Tennocho. That’s four, I hear you say! Well they did have a branch in Aoyama though it did close down. This location opened in March 2026, and is located in The Basegate building, just across the road from Yokohama Stadium home of the great Yokohama BayStars.

Basegate Yokohama Kannai was designed as a major mixed-use development with restaurants, bars, offices, a hotel, and entertainment venues on the former Yokohama City Hall site. The developers wanted to showcase local Yokohama businesses rather than fill the space entirely with national chains. TDM 1874 Kannai is located less than five minute walk from JR Kannai station, though you can also get here from the Yokohama Blue Line.

TDM 1874 Kannai : Atmosphere & Interior

As mentioned, this isn’t the largest location of the TDM 1874, and is more designed for people to pop in and grab a beer or two either before or after a game of baseball. That’s not to say though you can’t sit and drink here, as there’s some seating in here for around 12 people, with some seats at the bar, and then some tables against the wall. For a small space, it’s pretty airy, which is down to the large open windows letting in plenty of light. In spite of first coming here in Japan’s sweltering summers, the aircon was nice and gentle, cooling the place down, disregarding the blazing sun outside.

I have to say, the music playlist was awesome, with some 90s and 00s power pop-punk being played throughout the time here. The staff were incredibly friendly too, with one of them recognising me from the early days of Antenna America, which is also in the area. TDM 1874 Kannai has no table charge, another bonus, and the whole place is non-smoking too. Finally, there is some wifi available, though it’s from the Basegate building, not the bar.

TDM 1874 Kannai : Beer & Tap Information

Seeing as this place is a taproom for TDM 1874, then it’s not surprise that all six taps are dedicated to their beers. The beers come in two sizes : half US pint (240 ml) from ¥740 and US pints (480 ml) priced from ¥1,230. I didn’t notice any beer flights, or any happy hour offers, though I was there at the the weekend both times, so I guess it’s an excuse for me to go back during the week.

Unlike other TDM 1874 bars, there isn’t an option for takeaway beers in cans or bottles, but you can get a plastic glass of 350 ml from ¥1,160, though those prices are only printeed on one of the tap lists, so I didn’t see that option until I left.

TDM 1874 Kannai : Food & Menu Information

I haven’t had the food yet at TDM 1874 Kannai – on both occasions I’ve been here, I’ve had plans to go elsewhere – but the food here is simple, quick to order, quick to cook, and quick to eat snacks and hotdogs. The menus have enough English to order from, though on occasion, there are members of staff working who do speak English, so you won’t really have too much of a problem ordering.
