Bay Brewing Pedaling For IPA is a 7% New Zealand IPA from Yokohama Bay Brewing, based in Yokohama, Kanagawa. It’s part of their canned lineup, as well as being available on draught from time-to-time, and is also part of their Uncle Rinne series of beers. This beer is brewed using German Pilsner malt and uses hops in the form of El Dorado, Motueka, Nelson Sauvin, and Superdelic.

Bay Brewing Pedaling For IPA : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Bay Brewing Pedaling For IPA poured out a slightly hazy golden honey colour, with a fluffy and vibrant white head on top that clung to the side of the glass during drinking. The beer was pretty lively considering that it had come out of fridge about 30 seconds before taking the photo above.
The aroma though was rather muted in comparison – and it wasn’t because the beer was chilled. I’ve often found that IPAs from Bay Brewing tend to be softer in terms of aroma compared to their overseas counterparts. Bay Brewing Pedaling For IPA did have some light notes of lemons and oranges, alongside some stone fruit notes permeating through, but they lacked zip really, even after warming up.
Thankfully the body did have a bit more life in it than in the nose, with a smooth, well-rounded bitternes coming through at the start. This bitterness was joined by a slightly bigger flourish of hoppy flavours – more citrus than stone fruit this time around. I’d like to say the flavours lingered on, though as in the nose, they just faded away with a whimper, rather than a speeding ending to the beer,

I’ve been known to pedal for beers, not just IPAs, but I doubt I will be heading out soon on my bike to get any more cans of Bay Brewing Pedaling For IPA. It’s not a bad beer, but just lacks substance.
