Echigo White Ale with Mandarin, or to give it its full name of Echigo White Ale with Mandarin for Happy Cozy Time, is a 5% wit from Echigo Beer, based in Niigata. It’s part of their seasonal / limited lineup, and is available in both cans and on draught. Echigo White Ale with Mandarin uses the Echigo Always A White and uses locally grown mandarin oranges during the secondary fermentation.

Echigo White Ale with Mandarin : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Echigo White Ale with Mandarin poured out a hazy straw colour with a thin layer of white bubbles on top that popped away to leave just a few on top.
Unsurprisingly, Echigo White Ale with Mandarin smelt like oranges from the get go, and didn’t let up during drinking. That’s not to stay it was an overpowering aroma though, as it did allow some spiciness to come through, with the ginger giving a warming effect on the nose. However, the addition of lemon was lost throughout and I wouldn’t have guessed it was part of the beer, unless I had read the can.
Echigo White Ale with Mandarin was medium bodied, with a lingering spikiness throughout, but the orange flavour was the most dominant throughout drinking. It didn’t taste like a beer, more like a chuhi with some added wheat into it. With a light warming effect from the ginger, it was a well balanced beer, suited for warmer days.
