Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front : The Bottom Line
Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front is a welcome addition to the number of craft beer bars around Yokohama station – it also seems weird that the area doesn’t have that many. The atmosphere is markedly different from the other Yokohama Bay Brewing stores, but that’s because of the building the bar is located in, rather than the bar itself. There’s so many beers on tap – both in-house and guest – that there’s plenty for everyone and I would come here again when I am in the area. The whole place is non-smoking, family friendly, and also has free Wifi. There’s also no table charge for those wondering about that.
Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front : Background
The Yokohama Front building opened in June 2024, and is part of the expansive programme that has seen the area around Yokohama station rapidly change over the last 5 years. With the bottom three floors set aside for shops and restaurants, I was happy to see that Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front took up some prime residence on the second floor, overlooking a small bus area that serves both this building and Yokohama station itself.
Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front is located on the second floor as you walk from the north exit of Yokohama station, and is only about 3 minutes away – perfect if your regular change is in Yokohama or you fancy getting off a packed Tokaido line train after a hard day’s work, and the smell of salarymen’s armpits is putting you into a murderous rampage as you get jostled about on the train and are about have words with someone if they don’t put their bag on the rack as it keeps bumping you as they maintain to keep it on their back. Specific, I know, but just roll with it and come along for a beer.
Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front : Atmosphere & Interior
Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front is open plan with only a window really separating it off from the outside – which is great as it makes the bar seem a lot bigger than it really is. There’s plenty of seating inside, though you will be rubbing shoulders at times as the seats are close together.
In terms of seating, there is space for around 40 people inside, at various styles of seating. There’s a bar counter as you walk in, with space for around 8 people, and then window seating over looking the bus rotanda with space for another 8 people, but be warned. These seats are height adjustable so make sure you change them before seating down, otherwise you might end up like me with your knees up to your chin and the bar counter is too high for you. The remaining seating is at various tables set up in pairs or in groups of four. The whole place is non-smoking and has no table charge either. There is some free Wifi that you can also connect to.
Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front : Beer & Tap Information
Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front has 25 taps set aside for drinks, with the majority of those taps being Yokohama Bay Brewing beers – both lagers and ales are on tap. There are also a number of guest beers on tap with breweries from across Japan being the main ones.
Now the beers come in a variety of sizes and prices, all dependent if they are Yokohama Bay Brewing’s lagers, ales, or if they are guest beers. Small beers (around 240 ml) cost from ¥850, pints (470 ml) cost from ¥1,130, and large (500 ml) from ¥1,000 with all prices including tax. The lagers are cheaper than the ales at Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front, and the in-house beers cheaper than the guest beers. In spite of the number of taps, Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front doesn’t have any beer flights on offer, though there is a beer fridge at the front of the store for takeaway beers, and also beers that can be drunk in-store, with an additional corkage fee on top.
Though the pours may look horrendous, and I am usually the first to complain about that, the beers are poured to the mark on the glasses – if you have patience to let them settle down first of all.
Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front : Food & Menu Information
The food at Yokohama Bay Brewing The Front is exactly the same as other bars in the chain – I am always going for their chips without a thought and they were a bit smaller than I remember, but still equally as delicious as I remember. The menus were all in Japanese for the food menu, but the drinks menu did have enough English on it to order from. There were a limited number of vegetarian options on the menu but the building does have plenty of other options for food so if you can’t find something here, then head on out after a couple of beers.
