Tsukarenaosu Valle 100 : Background
Tsukarenaosu Valle 100 is a 5% American Pale Ale from Tsukarenaosu Brewery, based in Minami Awaji, on the island of Awaji, just south of Kobe, in Hyogo. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though it’s a limited beer release with it being in partnership with one of my favourite bars in Kobe called Valle Sagrado. Tsukarenaosu Valle 100 takes it name from the 100 mile journey (160 km) between the bar and the brewery, and also encompasses the peaks and valleys along the way. Tsukarenaosu Valle 100 is brewed with four different American hops, though which ones used is unknown at the time of writing.

Tsukarenaosu Valle 100 : Appearance
Tsukarenaosu Valle 100 poured out a very dark amber straw colour – far darker than expected for an American pale ale in my opinion. The head was slightly off white, made up of a mixture of sized bubbles, though it didn’t last long and faded to a thin ring around the edge, with no streaks or marks during drinking.
Tsukarenaosu Valle 100 : Aroma
Mixed feelings about this aroma – while it does have some signs of dank resinous notes in there, alongside some light dusting of citrus lemon and grapefruit, there is also an underlying musty, oxidised aroma present in Tsukarenaosu Valle 100. It smells like wet cardboard at times, and that aroma gets stronger as the beer warms up. Malt brings some respite to the off-aroma in the beer, but not enough to get away from it.
Tsukarenaosu Valle 100 : Taste
Like in the nose, it’s a mixed bag to Tsukarenaosu Valle 100. It starts off with a low to mild bitterness in the initial taste, which fades to the dank resinous flavour, but with the oxidised notes lingering throughout, it’s hard to get away from the feeling that Tsukarenaosu Valle 100 should not have been sold. I wanted to enjoy this beer, as there are some good points to it – it does have a sprinkling of lemon interspersed, but the oxidised flavour prevents me from really enjoying it.
Tsukarenaosu Valle 100 : The Bottom Line
It’s a shame Tsukarenaosu Valle 100 that didn’t turn out good. Give it a miss.
