Brew Classic Ultra Dragon : Background

Brew Classic Ultra Dragon is a 6% hazy IPA from Brew Classic, based in Kanazawa, in Ishikawa. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. Brew Classic Ultra Dragon is brewed using Mosaic and Simcoe during the brewing process, in the form of late hopping, and then Cryo Amarillo in the form of dry hopping. The main focus for this beer was the yeast and not the hops – a novel way of making a hazy IPA.

Brew Classic Ultra Dragon : Appearance

Murky brownish orange colour with a thin white head on top – not your usual looking hazy IPA for sure. Looked insipid and boring, rather than the vibrant and bright colours associated with the style.

Brew Classic Ultra Dragon : Aroma

Musty and slighty phenolic aroma coming off the beer – in-house infection or deliberate attempt to introduce some new aromas? Either way, it wasn’t nice. The hops were muted by the funkiness coming from the beer.

Brew Classic Ultra Dragon : Taste

Nothing like a hazy IPA for sure – phenolic body flavour with peculiar aftertaste. Really not a good beer. Hops were merely present in name only I think as the flavour tasted nothing like a hazy IPA.

Brew Classic Ultra Dragon : The Bottom Line

Give this a wide berth – nothing like a hazy IPA and nothing worth trying.
