Mangosteen Suede Berry : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Unsurprisingly, Mangosteen Suede Berry poured out a deep purple black colour, with a medium amount of frothy, tanned coloured head on top, that left some thick rings around the edge of the glass.
The initial aroma from the beer was of a fruity, jammy blackberry note. Alongside this, as the beer warmed up, there was a light phenolic note coming off the beer. It was quite a straightforward aroma for the beer, though with this beer being a dark saison, I was a little disappointed that more of the black malts notes didn’t come forward. At 8%, there wasn’t any noticeable alcohol heat coming off in the nose.
With the body, the same jammy blackberry notes permeated throughout drinking – imagine a slightly watered down jam with a touch of peach notes. I was surprised that the beer wasn’t thicker than it was, with the light body and jammy sweetness balancing off nicely one another. There was a touch of roasted notes in the back end of the beer, yet the 8% alcohol still couldn’t be detected.
Mangosteen Suede Berry : The Bottom Line
An interesting beer for sure – a good first effort on the site from Mangosteen.
