Flora Piper : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste

Flora Piper poured out a light golden colour with a slight haze to it, though I suspect that was because the can was fresh out of the fridge. The head was fluffy and white, with some legs to it as it stayed throughout drinking.

The aroma was a wonderful mix of fruit and spices – the orange was vibrant and citrusy with some hints of lemon present. The spiciness of the pepper was long-lasting but not overpowering. With Flora Piper being a saison, there was a decent layer of phenol yeasty funk present – but it was light. Bringing all of this together was a touch of malt sweetness though it was a supporting aroma as it was quite light on the nose as well.

Flora Piper started off with a citrus flavour that was fresh but not astringent, with a note of lemon just lingering in the back of it all. From start to finish though, the pepper brought a layer of spiciness that played off against the vivid citrus notes, and took the beer in a different way. Pepper can bring some heat and astringency if used too much, but this was just the right amount in the body. The yeast added a subtle layer of phenol funk to the beer. With its crisp and light body, Flora Piper was refreshing on a hot day.

Flora Piper : The Bottom Line

A solid, daily drinkable beer right here. Would be great with some grilled meats and vegetables for sure.
