White Dog Brewing Uraga : The Bottom Line

White Dog Brewing Uraga is a fun and cosy little place to drink in if you’re a local but at the current time of writing, it’s a worthy visit to a small pub crawl in the area. There’s not much else in, or even around, Uraga, so they’ve got the local craft beer market to themselves. The beers are middling to good, so there’s some work there to be done. The whole place is non-smoking, has no table charge, and also has some free wifi. But the best thing about it, besides beer, is they allow dogs inside, so take yours along with you.

White Dog Brewing Uraga Inside

White Dog Brewing Uraga : Background

White Dog Brewing Uraga is the first craft beer brewpub, let alone brewery, to open in the vicinity of Uraga – a place that is better known for seeing Commodore Perry’s Blackships enter into Tokyo Bay, than for its tourist attractions. It’s a surprise that there is a brewery in the area, but in February 2024, White Dog Brewing Uraga opened up and since then, has proven to be a hit with the locals in the area. The brewery itself came online in April 2024, and is named after the owners’ white dog though the breed of dog wasn’t mentioned.

White Dog Brewing Uraga is located about a three minute walk from Keikyu Uraga station, which is the end of the line for the Keikyu main line.

White Dog Brewing Uraga : Atmosphere & Interior

As you step into White Dog Brewing Uraga, you’re greeted by a large open space. There is seating for around 12 people. 6 at the wall counters, 2 people at the window, and a table in the middle of the bar. If you’re by the brewery wall, you can get a good look into the brewery. However be careful as the bench is wobbly and sometimes shakes the windows. You know that brewers are an easily scared bunch of people. The whole place is non-smoking, has no table charge, and also had some free wifi.

The bar was full within 30 minutes of being in the bar, with an eclectic mix of customers. This included some trail runners, a couple on a date, a family with their dog, and then me. With some gentle background music playing, it was enough to drown out some of the conversations but not so loud that people had to shout over it. White Dog Brewing Uraga also allows dogs in the bar so you can bring yours along. That is if they can come on the train or you have a means of getting here that doesn’t involve driving.

White Dog Brewing Uraga : Beer & Tap Information

There are 10 taps of craft beer on at White Dog Brewing Uraga, with an additional tap for cider. There were five taps for the White Dog Brewing Uraga beers with guest beers from across Kanagawa and farther afield. The beers come in two sizes : glass (320 ml) from ¥750 and pint (470 ml) from ¥1100, and prices included tax. There is also a three beer flight that gets you three 200 ml beers for ¥1800. Not a bad deal and a good chance to try some of their beers. White Dog Brewing Uraga also has some bottled beers available for takeaway, though they do vary throughout the year.

White Dog Brewing Uraga : Food & Menu Information

I didn’t eat at White Dog Brewing Uraga as I had eaten at the 7/11 across the road. Moreover I had heard that the food here wasn’t substantial or enough to fill up. There’s some small bits and pieces to eat, with the menus in English, and some vegetarian options too.
