Yona Yona Beer Works Kichijoji : The Bottom Line
Let’s be honest, if you’ve been to one Yona Yona Beer Works, then you’ve been to them all. There’s nothing surprising here about the bar so if you’re looking for some beers from Yo-Ho Brewing Company then these are the places to come to if you want them in a pint glass, but the prices are still more expensive than buying the cans. Like the others, there is no table charge, tax included in the prices, with some English on the menu. There is no happy hour but at least they do have a (limited) beer flight on too.
Yona Yona Beer Works Kichijoji : The Full Review
Wanting to do a beer crawl in Kichijoji before heading over to Sakamichi Brewing to celebrate their third anniversary, I ended up getting to the city a bit too early – the bars I wanted to get to were closed, though good old dependable Yona Yona Beer Works was there in the time of need, along with Craft Beer Market Kichijoji, with both stores being opening from late morning for those needing to scratch that itch.
Yona Yona Beer Works Kichijoji opened in 2016 and is technically the fifth in the chain of the expanding chain of Yona Yona Beer Works, that aren’t actually owned by Yo-Ho Brewing, rather a restaurant company called Wonder Table., and is also one of the largest branches. It’s located about a 5 minute walk on the north side of JR Kichijoji station, in one of the main shopping areas of the city.
Yona Yona Beer Works Kichijoji : Atmosphere & Interior
As mentioned earlier, Yona Yona Beer Works Kichijoji is huge – there’s space for easily over 100 people in here in all possible configurations – as single drinkers by the bar at counter seats, as a group of drinkers or people on a date with booth seats and group seating, and also seating for families for those who want to go to a bar but want some secluded space in case of having pushchairs or buggies. The whole bar is non-smoking, has no table charge, though there is a two and a half hour time limit for those sitting down. There was some rather loud music playing across the bar, which kind of drowned out the conversation I was trying to have with a friend – not ideal but then perhaps if you don’t mind a playlist of dance, rock, techno, and some pop then it would be fine.
Yona Yona Beer Works Kichijoji : Beer & Tap Information
Just take a look at that glass – that’s not something you want to see. All those bubbles up and down the glass means it has not been washed properly. Either the dishwasher didn’t clean with soap and water, or the dishwasher was just terrible at washing glasses. If the glass has not been washed properly, I would hate to think about what else has not been washed properly. The bar also has no physical menus anymore, instead you’re given a barcode to scan to bring up the menus for drinks and food.
The beers are exactly the same as the other locations, and come up in exactly the same sizes and glasses. Taking note of the Yona Yona Beer Works Kanda location, If you haven’t tried any of the Yo-Ho Brewing range, then either you have escaped their reach from Lawson’s and other stores, such as Seiyu, as the ubiquitous Yona Yona Ale can be found pretty easily now. Beers come in three different sizes: small (¥450 ~ ¥530), medium (¥680 ~ ¥780) and pint (¥900 ~ ¥980) along with a three-beer tasting set of three small beers for ¥1,280 though you can’t choose the limited edition beers or the barley wine in that. There is no happy hour though so don’t expect cheap post work drinks.
Yona Yona Beer Works Kichijoji : Food Information
The food at Yona Yona Beer Works Kichijoji didn’t seem to differ that much from the other locations, with a distinct leaning towards meat and grilled based dishes, but there are a couple of vegetarian options as well. Having eaten at Craft Beer Market Kichijoji before hand, and waiting to eat at the Craft Beer Market Penny Lane branch a bit later, all I had was some chicken nuggets, which hit the spot but nothing really worth raving about.
