Good Beer Stand The Bottom Line
Looking for a quick beer in Fukuoka station? Head to Good Beer Stand. Looking for a bar with a good variety on tap? Head to Good Beer Stand. I’m lucky if I can find a bar in an area that I would repeatedly go to but with Fukuoka, I have found two with Good Beer Stand being the second. It offers everything up that I want in a craft beer bar – a decent selection of beers on tap, non-smoking, and if you hadn’t guessed by now, free WiFi and no table charges. It may seem strange to some to be drinking in a food court, but the drinking area that encompasses Good Beer Stand is comfortable and is separated somewhat. The only downsides to Good Beer Stand, if I had to pick some, would be that prices do not include tax and the beer flights are such good value for money that they are limited to one per person per group – kind of sucks as I wanted to drink more beers off the menu. A good problem to have.
Good Beer Stand The Full Review
When I arrived in Fukuoka, I was in a rush to meet a friend at Fukuoka Craft, and as such, didn’t have time explore the station area. However, before leaving to head off up to Okayama, I wanted to grab a beer or several before the long and arduous bullet train trip up to Okayama. Yeah, I know that some of you are thinking that it’s not that hard a life sitting on a bullet train drinking my brains out across Japan; however, bullet trains are BORING when you’ve taken so many – and the weather was crappy too so there was nothing to see out of the window besides big, grey skies. So off to Good Beer Stand I went in the pouring rain before jumping on the train.
Good Beer Stand opened in April 2016, and was original one of two Good Beer bars in Fukuoka; however, the Good Beer Faucets Hakata closed down in April 2018 to leave this as the only branch in the area. Good Beer Stand is located on the 10th floor of the JR Hakata Kitte building in what appeared to be the second floor of the food court. I’m not adverse to drinking in food courts, but sometimes it can feel a little weird drinking a few pints in the morning; however, the layout to Good Beer Stand meant that you’re not exposed or being judge by people looking for a place to eat lunch. There is space for around 40 people inside, with 8 counter seats and the remaining at various low and high tables dotted around the bar. The whole place is non-smoking and there is also no table charge. Like pretty much EVERY place in Kyushu, there is also free WiFi too – take a leaf out of Kyushu’s book please Kanto establishments!
In terms of taps, Good Beer Stand does not lie as there is lots of good beer to choose from, with over 20 taps on the go. There is a decent spread across a variety of styles, with both domestic and imports on tap. Beers come in two sizes: small (200ml) from ¥500, and medium (350ml) from ¥700. There is also a really good beer flight offer on too: 3 x 150ml beers for ¥1400, or the bigger option of 5 x 150ml beers for ¥1980 – however, it’s limited to one person per group per visit – annoying as there was so much on tap that I wanted to try. However, the prices don’t include tax and there was no happy hour either.
In terms of food, Good Beer Stand specialises in hamburgers so vegetarians may have a tough time to get something here – but we’re in a food court and Good Beer Stand is more for drinking at than eating at. The burger was pretty large and came with some chips, but not really enough for the price. There are some smaller dishes on the menu, but most, if not all, were based around meat or fish. The menus had enough basic information to order beers and food from, though if you want more details then the bar staff were more than willing to explain things.
