12 to Go The Bottom Line
If 12 to Go isn’t on your list of places to go to in Shizuoka for craft beer, then it should be as it offers up the best lineup of beers when we went and I was happy to go back again the next day for some more. However, if you’re a non-Seattle Seahawks fan, or one of their rivals in the NFC West, then the decor may wind you up. The range of beers on tap was impressive too with no one style really dominating over others. The whole place is non-smoking and has no table charge, while prices also include tax too. Twelve also has some WiFi as well. The menus are also in English too if you want one as well.
12 to Go The Full Review
12 to Go wasn’t originally on the plans for a craft beer crawl back in August; however, over time, Twelve has become the de facto taproom in the city for West Coast Brewing, based in the harbour area down in Mochimune, Shizuoka. What started out as a craft beer bar dedicated to showing off some beers from the USA has grown into being a bar that has both imports and local beers on tap. So Twelve made the cut for craft beer – just one problem. On the day I went for the first time, there was a slightly uncomfortable situation with a random drinker shoving a beer at me and telling me to try it. I’m not one to usually turn down beer but having a stranger pass me a beer is slightly unnerving. The night did get better though from that point on.
12 to Go is located about 10 minutes from JR Shizuoka station, and is also near Shin-Shizuoka station too for those in the area. The inside is light and airy, with plenty of decor dedicated to the Seattle Seahawks, with the name of the bar being a homage to the team. Twelve is completely non-smoking and also does not have table charges either – both a big plus in our book.
There are 11 taps of craft beer on at Twelve, with the 12th seemingly retired – again as a homage to the Seattle Seahawks. Of the other 11 taps, there is a good split between domestic and imported beer, with Shizuoka’s West Coast Brewing featured heavily on the tap list. The beers come in two sizes: glass (250ml) from ¥850 and regular (about 500ml) from ¥1200, but all the prices include tax. All the prices include tax but there is no happy hour nor beer flight either. There are also some cans on sale too; however, those are not for offsite consumption so don’t try taking them away.
The food at 12 to Go is based around smaller dishes, though you do get a fair bit of food for your money. The food is cooked fresh and is mostly focussed on American sports food – so think of hot dogs, chips, onion rings, and the such.
