Outsider Mahana Coffee Stout is a 6% stout from Outsider Brewing, based in Yamanashi, Japan. It was first released in January 2018 and is made using a variety of different coffees blended together and hopped using Sorachi Ace.
Outsider Mahana Coffee Stout Aroma and Taste
Outsider Mahana Coffee Stout came up with a pitch black body and a slightly tan colour head that lingered for the whole period of drinking. There was a strong coffee aroma coming off of it, as well as some vanilla, chocolate and roasted malts in the background too. Basically it smelt like it was supposed to be smell like, and looked like what I had hoped for.
From the first sip to the last, the coffee lingers on the palate, but doesn’t become overpowering. The coffee brought a slight bitterness as well though it too wasn’t overpowering. Outsider Mahana Coffee Stout had a subtle roasted malt and chocolate flavour to it, with all the flavours being balanced very well. At 6%, the alcohol brought a little heat to it but it was masked well and didn’t dominate over anything else. The thick body supported all of the flavours well and made me smile – it’s been a while since I’ve had a regular stout this thick. The aftertaste was of coffee and an edge of roasted malts.
Outsider Mahana Coffee Stout The Bottom Line
I enjoy stouts and Outsider Mahana Coffee Stout is a stout that you should try – I definitely be drinking this again.
