The Day East Tokyo (Asakusa / Tokyo)

The Day East Tokyo : The Bottom Line

The Day East Tokyo is a cool little place with lots on offer – though like with other places in the area, the prices may put people off. That’s a shame really as I did enjoy this place and would happily pop in again when I’m in the area. There’s a decent number of taps to choose from, with plenty of styles as well. The atmosphere, considering it was a Tuesday night, was lively and fun, with both drinkers popping in for one, and groups of people have many more. Finally, the whole place is non-smoking, has free wifi, and also always dogs out the front of the bar.

The Day East Tokyo Inside

The Day East Tokyo : Background

The Day East Tokyo, stylised as THE DAY East Tokyo, opened in December 2019, and is located just a little bit north of Asakusa station, located on the Tobu Railway, Tokyo Metro, and Toei Subway lines. The bar takes its name from the snowboarding term “The Day” which is used when there has been a large amount of snow and the day after, the skies are blue, the snow is fresh, and you know you’re in for a good time.

The Day East Tokyo : Atmosphere & Interior

As you approach The Day East Tokyo, it feels like you’re walking down a street from the middle of the 20th century. Something feels a bit out of place but also fresh. The outside of The Day East Tokyo has a small seating area, where you can bring your dog and sit outside for a couple of cold beers.

Inside, the bar is split into two parts – a small standing area where drinkers can pick up a beer or two, while at the back of the bar is a large seating area. The front part has space for around six people standing, though that might be a bit close, almost shoulder to shoulder. The back of the bar has space for around 10 people at various combinations of sofas and tables. With it being a Tuesday night, I was most surprised to see The Day East Tokyo so busy but it was a lively, vibrant atmosphere, with a variety of drinkers – salarymen, groups of women drinking, couples, and then me.

Finally, the whole place is non-smoking and also has no table charge. There is also some free wifi with the details dotted around the bar.

The Day East Tokyo : Beer & Tap Information

The Day East Tokyo has eight taps of craft beer on, with a decent variety of beers on tap. The beers were all domestic on the day I went. The beers come in two sizes : half pint (240 ml) from ¥900 and pint (470 ml) from ¥1,700. Thankfully, at those prices, tax is included. However, there aren’t any options for beer flights or takeaway beers. A shame really as there was a lot to try but the price did put me off somewhat.

The Day East Tokyo : Food & Menu Information

The Day East Tokyo pride themselves on their in-house made meats and sausages – a great combination there. However, I forgot to take a picture of the food! So this is a picture from their site – but the sausages did look like that. The sausages were delicious – especially the Chinese inspired sausage with all the spices bursting through. The korikori sausage, which was made of yuzu and chicken cartilige, was tough but also tasty. There are some vegetarian options though not as many. The menus are both in Japanese and in English, so there isn’t any problem ordering anything.
