Nemoto Saketen Susukino (Sapporo / Hokkaido)

Nemoto Saketen Susukino : The Bottom Line

With Susukino Yell Stand next door, you’ve got a great one-two for some beers with Nemoto Saketen Susukino combined. While the inside does look like a Japanese clinic, what with its white walls and sterile feel to it, I enjoyed having a couple of beers here and would happily come back for another. Nemoto Saketen Susukino doesn’t really lend itself to a long drinking session, but sometimes one is all you need. The whole place is non-smoking and has no table charge. There is also some free wifi from the Cocono building to use.

Nemoto Saketen Susukino Inside

Nemoto Saketen Susukino : Background

Nemoto Shouten opened in November 2023, in the Cocono building, which is on the major intersection in Susukino – right across from the massive Nikka Whisky sign. Alongside Susukino Yell Stand, Nemoto Saketen is located in the basement and you can easily reach the place from the Susukino station on the Sapporo underground Tozai line.

However, the parent company, Nemoto Shouten, has been in operation since 1945 in Makomanai, Minami-ku, Sapporo! They have been rooted in Makomanai since the early Meiji period, and their ancestors have been in business for generations. A pretty bold history in the area for sure!

Nemoto Shouten : Atmosphere & Interior

There are two parts to Nemoto Saketen Susukino – a bottle shop and then the standing bar. The standing bar is on the right handside of the shop, and has space for around 20 people inside, all at various standing spaces. These include the bar counter area, as well as some tables against the far wall. Seeing as the place is a standing bar, there is no table charge, and the whole place is non-smoking.

Perhaps the main downside to this place is how sterile it feels – and that’s partly due to it being located in a food court. While Susukino Yell stand has some personality to it, Nemoto Saketen Susukino feels like you’re drinking in a Japanese dentist’s clinic, as it’s so white inside, it’s almost blinding. A minor gripe really.

Nemoto Saketen Susukino : Beer & Tap Information

There are six taps of craft beer at Nemoto Saketen Susukino, with a healthy number of different styles on tap. The beers come in one size, which is 400 ml with beers from ¥900. There is no option for a beer flight, nor any happy hour or all you can drink plan. Nemoto Saketen lends itself well then to having one, maybe two beers, before doing some shopping or heading home. On top of that, there are a couple of beer fridges for you to get some takeaway beers; however, they can not be drunk in-store.

Nemoto Saketen Susukino : Food & Menu Information

There isn’t anything really to eat at Nemoto Saketen Susukino besides some snacks, but like Susukino Yell Stand, you can bring in your own food to eat. Finally, the menus are mostly in Japanese, with just enough English on them to order some food, and all of the prices include tax.
