Uchu Brewing Taproom (Toranomon / Tokyo)

Uchu Brewing Taproom : The Bottom Line

You’ve got to have some kind of spending kink to come drink at Uchu Brewing Taproom – and that’s a shame really as I don’t mind their beers at all. However, with very little on offer – there’s no food, limited space, and a small range of taps – you’re probably going to come here once to tick the place off, or be some kind of massive fan of Uchu Brewing to want to come back. Their beers can be found for cheaper, and larger, across Tokyo so I’d advise going to other places instead. Thankfully there is no table charge, all the prices include tax, and there are some takeaway beers too.

Uchu Brewing Taproom Inside

Uchu Brewing Taproom : Background

Uchu Brewing – one of the hype breweries in Japan – has long been sought after by beer geeks in Japan, with their hazies and fruit beers. However, for a long time, the only place to get them was at bars across Tokyo, if you were lucky and they hadn’t sold out, or in cans from their online store. In April 2024, Uchu Brewing opened up the Uchu Brewing Taproom in Toranomon Hills, with the aim of being able to find their beers and cans more regularly in Tokyo, but also without the need to head out to Kobuchizawa.

Uchu Brewing Taproom is located in between the two towers of Toranomon Hills – it’s very easy to miss if you don’t know where you are going. If you can find Toranomon Hills Glass Rock, then you’re almost there. The bar is on the second floor of this building, but it can be reached from either Toranomon Hills Station Tower or the Toranomon Hills Mori Building if you’re coming that way.

Uchu Brewing Taproom : Atmosphere & Interior

As you enter the bar, you’ll notice that it’s pretty narrow – this is the entirity of the place. In spite of it being painted in dark grey / black, the bright lights above, and the big windows help allow more light into the place, so it doesn’t feel like you’ve walked into a bar catering for goths and vampires.

There’s no seating at Uchu Brewing Taproom, with standing room for anywhere between 6 to 10 people, depending on how many people are using the tiny shelves along the wall. Be careful with those shelves as it’s more than likely that a beer or two could be spilt if you’re not careful. As this is a standing bar, there is no table charge, and the whole place is non-smoking. Finally, there is some free WiFi that you can connect to, with the details located at the register where you pay.

Uchu Brewing Taproom : Beer & Tap Information

There are six taps of craft beer on at Uchu Brewing Taproom, with all of them being from Uchu Brewing. The beers come mainly in one size of 250 ml from ¥1,140 though they are served in plastic cups, so in theory you could take the beers away. And the price is the main downside to this place – you can easily get the beers at cheaper places in Tokyo, such as iBrew or Craft Beer Market, for more beer.

There isn’t a beer flight option on at Uchu Brewing Taproom – not a surprise really – but there are three fridges of cans, though they aren’t full up all the time. The cans are available for takeaway or they can be drunk in-store; however, there is a small corkage fee to pay.

Uchu Brewing Taproom : Food & Menu Information

There isn’t any food so eat up before coming here. The menus have enough English on them to order, and the prices include tax. One word of warning though, Uchu Brewing Taproom is cashless – as I found out on the day – so make sure you have some form of payment, such as card or E-money.
