Vertere Spinosa : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste

Vertere Spinosa poured out a vibrant golden but hazy colour with a thin amount of white head on top that had legs. It left some thick streaks down the side of the glass, and a thin layer on top.

I must admit that I’ve had mixec experiences with Strata hopped beers – some have been very good, and some have been weird. But this beer smelt great from start to finish. Vertere Spinosa had lashings of tropical fruits in the nose, with lots of mango and passion fruit from the start. These were rounded out with some pineapple and light peach notes as the beer warmed up.

There was no discernible bitterness to the beer at all – which was quite a surprise. The body began with a full hop flavour of tropical fruits – mango, passion fruit, and pineapple – all mixed together. There was a light sweetness during drinking, which elevated the hoppy flavours some more, making the beer taste a bit like a watered down tropical juice drink. At 7%, it was easy drinking with no noticeable alcohol heat in the beer, just a lingering hoppy aftertaste.

Vertere Spinosa : The Bottom Line

A top notch beer that shows off how good Strata hops can be – definitelye one to try out again.
