Echigo All Nippon Koshihikari Ale is a 5% Japanese rice ale, from Echigo Beer, based in Niigata city, in Niigata. It’s part of their 30th anniversary lineup, and can be found in cans only. Unlike the Echigo Koshihikari Lager, this one uses Barley malt from Tochigi Prefecture, hops from Iwate and Hokkaido, and Koshihikari rice from Niigata Prefecture.

Echigo All Nippon Koshihikari Ale : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Echigo All Nippon Koshihikari Ale poured out a slight dark golden amber colour with a thick white head on top, made up of large frothy bubbles that popped away.
The aroma began with a slighlty creamy corn-like note, with an underlying nose of floral and earthy hops glistening through as Echigo All Nippon Koshihikari Ale warmed up. It wasn’t that much of a detraction from the rice aroma in the nose, but I’m hard pushed to notice the specific type of rice used.
Echigo All Nippon Koshihikari Ale had a crisp body when chilled, that became slightly more fuller as it warmed up. The flavours were light on the palate, with the same corn-like note to the beer, and just an underlying rice quality to it that became a touch more pronounced as the beer warmed up. The lingering earthy and floral hop flavours cut through more so as the beer warmed up, but it was that corn quality that was the main

It’s an interesting mix of styles here – Japanese rice lager crossed with an ale – I prefer the rice with the crispness of a lager though.
