Totopia Bathmophobia : Background

Totopia Bathmophobia is an 8.5% West Coast Double IPA from Totopia, based in Nagakuta, in Aichi. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. Totopia Bathmophobia is brewed with Amarillo, Centennial, Citra, and Simcoe Cryo. The beer is named, not after the fear of baths as I thought, but actually the fear of slopes or stairs.

Totopia Bathmophobia : Appearance

Hazy, slightly dull golden straw colour with a massive plump frothy head on top that left streaks down the side of the glass.

Totopia Bathmophobia : Aroma

Melon and citrus aromas of lemon and oranges present. A light resinous note comes through as the beer warms up, but it’s not overpowering. Light malt sweetness in the nose with a touch of alcohol heat present as the beer warms up.

Totopia Bathmophobia : Taste

Low bitterness but high fruitiness with the lemon, melon, and oranges being present. The bitterness though does linger throughout drinking with just a smidgen of resinous notes underpining it all. The sweetness is present, yet controlled, with just enough to counter the hops.

Totopia Bathmophobia : The Bottom Line

A good beer straddling classic West Coast IPA flavours with the modern take on it.
