Be Easy Aomori Ale Yellow Koji : Aroma & Taste
Be Easy Aomori Ale Yellow Koji poured out a slightly hazy straw colour with a plump white head on top that left sticky streaks down the side of the glass. There was a rather complex aroma going on, even when the beer was chilled: a citrus bouquet of grapefruit and lemon with the unmistakable aroma of nihonshu mold with some of its funk. There was a hint of creaminess in the nose but in terms of sweetness, there was barely anything that registered.
The body to Be Easy Aomori Ale Yellow Koji was as complex as the nose. I was expecting some sweet but instead ended up with a dry, lemon, nihonshu flavour on the palate. It wasn’t overpowering not unpleasant but just unusual – as if some hops and some koji mold had had a baby together. Those funky mold flavours continued into the aftertaste and I really didn’t notice the alcohol level either.
