Tsuji Brewing : The Bottom Line

It would be unfair to judge Tsuji Brewing on the beers that they’ve have made so far – all breweries need a 6 month period of breaking in, so we’ll pass judgement on those until another day, but that should tell you enough about what we think. Tsuji Brewing is a nice little space for a community to build up around, and I will be going back when, not if, I am in the area. The whole place is no smoking, has space for outside drinking, and you can also bring in your own food – a good idea with the small Chinese shop next door.

Tsuji Brewing : The Full Write Up

It seems that the Shonan town of Tsujido is gunning to be the craft beer capital along the coast. It’s still got some way to but it’s fast growing and with Tsuji Brewing, one of the latest additions to the area, the aim seems to be building up small craft beer communities along the stretch of road from Fujisawa down to Hiratsuka. Not a bad little idea there.

Tsuji Brewing opened in November 2021 and is located midway between JR Tsujido and JR Chigasaki station. The owner used to be a businessman, before living in the UK and USA for 5 years a piece and then deciding to give up his stable job to brew beer. When asked, the owner and head brewer, Tsuji-san – an apt name – mentioned that he used to brew in the USA and wanted to expand on the local scene with his ideas for beer.

Tsuji Brewing Inside

Tsuji Brewing : Atmosphere & Interior

Tsuji Brewing is located in what appeared to be a housing block, with a few other shops on the street, and this reflects the kind of nature it has. Inside Tsuji Brewing, there is space for about 6 people at various counter, though there is plenty of standing room inside. The whole place is non-smoking and there is also no table charge. Moreover, there is a small space outside the front for people to stand and drink at – as long as you don’t get too rowdy.

There was also some background music playing, but it was pretty quiet, or my friends were pretty loud. Either way, it did not detract away from the conversations we were having. Tsuji-san is a fluent English speaker, and he was more than happy to field questions we had for him about the brewery, in all its stainless steel glory through the windows, and other things about his life.

Tsuji Brewing : Approach to Covid-19

When you walk into Tsuji Brewing, there is some alcohol spray available and the staff are wearing masks. Moreover, the staff try to encourage some social distancing.

Tsuji Brewing : Beer & Tap Information

Unlike other brewpubs, from opening Tsuji Brewing has had 5 taps of their own beer on, though there is space for 6 so in the future, you may see some more on tap. The beers come in two sizes: medium (350 ml) from 700 yen and large (500 ml) from 950 yen – some pretty good prices right there. There is also a 4 beer flight option with any 4 beers(148 ml) at 1,380 yen. All of the prices include tax and there is also the option to get beers to takeaway. The beers were ok but we’re not going to review them until Tsuji Brewing has been open for 6 months. There are also some bottles on sale to take away but they are availability varies.

Tsuji Brewing : Food Information

There is no food on offer besides some random snacks. You can get some food from the store next door however to eat in.
