Shiga Kogen Hazy IIPA, also known as Shiga Kogen Mugamuchu, is a 7.5% NE-IPA from Tamamura Honten, based in Nagano, Japan. This supposedly limited edition beer is in its second run of being produced, because the first version was so popular. It’s unknown though what hops went into Shiga Kogen Hazy IIPA, but we do know it has an IBU of 50.
Shiga Kogen Hazy IIPA Aroma and Taste
Shiga Kogen Hazy IIPA poured out a hazy golden orange colour with a little bit of white head on top that didn’t last long – it was a blink and miss it occurrence for this beer. There was a distinctly sweet and citrusy aroma coming off Shiga Kogen Hazy IIPA – with just some light dusting of mango and grapefruit as well as a subtle dankness to it. Not as much as I would have expected from Shiga Kogen based on some of their danker, more hoppier beers, but it could have been that Shiga Kogen Hazy IIPA was not as fresh as it should have been.
That subtlety in the nose was pretty much a good representation of what the body was like – kind of like a lite-NE-IPA really. There were some hints of citrus, along with grapefruit and mango, with a light dusting of dank but not really as much as I have come to expect from NE-IPA. I wanted juice and I got some juice that had been watered down from concentrate. The bitterness, which was quite high for an NE-IPA, lasted from the start right until the end.
Shiga Kogen Hazy IIPA The Bottom Line
I can’t lie, but I was disappointed with Shiga Kogen Hazy IIPA.
