Background
Futako Brewery is a brewery located in Futakotamagawa, Tokyo, and was established in November 2018. The breweru aims to blend the cityscape and culture of the town from which it was born, Futakotamagawa. It is a beer that reflects the pride of the town and its people, and truly embodies the essence of the local culture. The head brewers, Ichihara Naoko and Kobayashi Yuka, wanted to create something that would become a specialty of Futako Tamagawa, which did not have any particular specialty, and wanted to “toast with Nikotama beer one day”, and started working to sell local craft beer in August 2014.
The brewery began to take roots when they were asked to make a proposal at a presentation on the theme of “What would be nice to have in the town”. Then, on February 5th, 2015, which is called “Futako Day,” Futako Mugi Mugi Corporation was established, with Ichihara Naoko as representative and Kobayashi Yuka as vice representative. Futako Mugi Mugi Corporation worked with the Setagaya Hop Project to brew “Futako Local Beer” by using locally grown hops and wheat, which are the raw materials for beer, and by using local ingredients as secondary ingredients.
After four years of searching for a base to realize their home brewing business, they finally decided to set up shop and opened their brewpub “Futako Beer Brewery” in the new commercial facility “Yanagi Alley Minamikado” on November 30, 2018. “Yanagi Alley” is a concept area with various shops lined up in the back alleys near Futako Tamagawa Station.
