Taros Sucker Punch : Background
Taros Sucker Punch is a 5% fruited sour from Taros Brewing, based in Hiroshima. It’s part of their regular lineup and is available in both cans and on draught. Taros Sucker Punch is styled as to be an apple pie-esque beer, with the usage of apple juice, maple syrup, cinnamon, vanilla, and lactose contributing to this, though don’t worry hop-heads, Taros Brewing also used Mosaic and Sabro to make this beer.

Taros Sucker Punch : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Taros Sucker Punch poured out a dull golden colour with some haze to the body, and had a thick white head on top, consisting of small bubbles that popped away quickly.
The aroma wasn’t quite like an apple pie, but did have a lot of the individual parts going on. The apple nose was present and stuck around from start to finish, though adjuncts of cinnamon and maple syrup were not as pronounced as I thought they were going to be. Taros Sucker Punch had a big sour nose during drinking, and almost detracted away from the apple notes in the beer.
Finally, the body began with a solid and strong sour tone, that did in fact feel like a sucker punch – I had been sold on an apple pour, and had a weird taste in my mouth. Once again, all the adjuncts that had gone into the making of this beer didn’t really come together, nor did they balance each other out. As for the hops, well that was lost on me as I had no idea that they were in here.
Taros Sucker Punch : The Bottom Line
Didn’t taste like an apple pie, nor did it really have a nuanced sourness. Mixed feelings about this beer.
