Tall Boys Brewing Information

Background

Tall Boys Brewing is a brewery located in Nagoya, Aichi and has been in operation since 2022. Head Brewer, Collin Blodgett, is from Spokane, eastern Washington, USA and was a homebrewer from a young age with him helping out his father. After graduating from high school, he went on to college and majored in biochemistry. After graduating from a university in the United States, he came to Japan in August 2008 to study at a Japanese university and began living in Tokyo.

With the backing of Bayshore’s, who operate Midtown BBQ Nagoya and Midtown BBQ Yokohama, Colin began working towards launching a brewery. In the spring of 2019, he went to Heretic Brewing in Fairfield, California to learn how to make beer. After returning to Japan, just as he was about to start preparing to establish a brewery, the spread of the new coronavirus pandemic hit hard, and the brewery’s establishment was put on hold for the time being.

Tall Boys Brewing started out as a phantom brewery, and in November 2020, they started selling their first product as Phantom Brewery, “Two Hop Pale Ale” after using the brewing equipment from Numazu Craft in Numazu City. On December 1st, 2020, the holding company Cascadia Co., Ltd. was created and on January 31st, 2022, the taproom “Tall Boys Brewing” attached to the brewery opened before the brewery had opened.

The name Tall Boys Brewing comes from the fact that all three members involved in the founding are tall. In Canada and the United States, 500ml cans are called “tall boys” and they named it this with the desire to provide tall boys.
