Onuma Stout : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste

Onuma Stout poured out a pitch black colour with a thick off-white head. The head had a slight brownish tinge to it, and left some thick rings around the edge of the glass.

The aroma was souped up, with a thick chocolate and coffee aroma throughout drinking, and didn’t really let up. There was a touch of heat to the beer, with the alcohol coming across stronger than the 6.5% that it said on the can. Outside of that, it was pretty much your standard export stout. Even when it had warmed up, the flavour profile didn’t deviate too much, with just a hint of acrid black malt present.

Finally, the body was quite thick, with a bold chocolate and coffee flavour from the get-go, with some hints of roasted black malt during drinking. The thickness of the body, combined with the slightly heavier than expected booziness meant this beer is more suited for the colder months and climates – which makes sense considering where the beer is from. The lingering roasted flavours, with typical stout flavours, carried on into the end.

Onuma Stout : The Bottom Line

This is a souped up, and thicker, stout than I’m used to for this abv. Could do with some more balancing really.
