Crazy Craft Beer : The Bottom Line
It’s hard to recommend Crazy Craft Beer over anything else in the area – and that’s because of the table charge that is added on. When this place was Craft Beer Market Awajicho, the main issue was that it was closed at the weekend due to lack of business but with Crazy Craft Beer, it’s a lot busier, being full up by 3pm on a Saturday, so there’s a good atmosphere here. The whole place is non-smoking and is family friendly.
Crazy Craft Beer : Background
As mentioned in “The Bottom Line”, Crazy Craft Beer sprung from the relic of what was Craft Beer Market Awajicho, which closed down during Covid back in 2020. Crazy Craft Beer opened in December of the same year, but does not seem to be linked to the Craft Beer Market chain in any form.
Crazy Craft Beer is located in the Kanda area of Tokyo, though the bar is closer to Awajicho station, with it being less than a five minute walk from that station, as well as Ogawamachi being at the same area.
Crazy Craft Beer : Atmosphere & Interior
It really seemed like Crazy Craft Beer just took over all of the furnishings from Craft Beer Market as it felt like walking into the bar that once was. Besides a few signs outside and on the glasses, nothing really had changed from those days. We arrived at about 2:30 pm on a Saturday, which was one big change from the old bar, as it used to be closed on the weekends. Within an hour, the bar had filled up with various groups – day drinkers, tourists, couples, and even a mum with her child in a buggy – a real diverse group of people, which was most welcome.
There’s space for about 30 people inside, at various combinations of bar counter seats, tables, and also some standing area too. However, and it’s weird to be writing this at the end of 2024, but Crazy Craft Beer does have the dreaded table charge of ¥399 though you do get a choice of some tiny morsel of food to go with your beers. I’d also expect a Wi-Fi connection for my money, but alas, nothing was there.
Crazy Craft Beer : Beer & Tap Information
If you’re going to name yourself Crazy Craft Beer, then I expect a wide and varied range of craft beer on tap, with numerous styles to boot. Crazy Craft Beer does not have either – a major let down with the name. There are up to ten taps of craft beer on, with a few different prices available. Half pints (240 ml) from ¥499, pints (480 ml) from ¥799, and then some beers come in crazy size (700 ml) from ¥1199 but not all beers are available in that size. While the prices for the lower end beers are cheaper, the higher end beers are some of the most expensive I’ve seen in Tokyo, so if you can, stick to the cheaper, less exciting beers.
There’s also a macro beer on tap as well as sours, so you can bring your non-craft beer drinking friends along to this place. I didn’t notice any happy hour when I was here for beers, though there was some flag outside advertising a happy hour, it wasn’t explained.
Crazy Craft Beer : Food & Menu Information
There’s a few different bits off food on at Crazy Craft Beer, with pizzas and some fried chips on the menu, but alas, I had just eaten before coming here so I missed out. The menus though are all in Japanese, and I wasn’t offered an English menu, so make sure you come with someone who can read katakana at least. The prices do include tax, so that was one less thing to worry about.
