Y Market Cloudy Yellow Sky is a 7.5% NE-IPA from Y Market Brewing, based in Nagoya, in Aichi, Japan. It’s part of their can and draft lineup though for how long is unknown as Y Market Brewing seem to be knocking out the cans at a fair old rate. Y Market Cloudy Yellow Sky takes the Y Market Yellow Sky Pale Ale and ramps up the malts for this beer. Like other beers from Y Market Brewing, Y Market Cloudy Yellow Sky uses imported Citra, Horizon, and Mosaic from the US and also has locally sourced yuzu added as well.

Y Market Cloudy Yellow Sky Aroma and Taste

Y Market Cloudy Yellow Sky poured out a hazy golden yellow colour – you can’t fault Y Market Brewing for knowing their beers – with a small amount of fluffy white head that faded very quickly to a few bubbles around the side of the glass. The aroma coming off Y Market Cloudy Yellow Sky was a punchy yuzu and peach at first, before segueing into a grapefruit and passion fruit one. There was very little malt aroma though, even when warmed up.

The body to Y Market Cloudy Yellow Sky was smooth – there was no discernible bitterness to it, even though Y Market Brewing label this as a double NE-IPA – I’m guessing they doubled up the dry hopping hops rather than in the boil. The flavours were a plethora of tropical ones – peach, passion fruit, pineapple – along with some citrus – grapefruit and the yuzu – that were all well balanced with one another. There was no alcohol heat either in Y Market Cloudy Yellow Sky. The lingering fruity flavours carried on into the aftertaste and made the beer very drinkable. Just a shame that it was released in winter and not in the warmer months.

Y Market Cloudy Yellow Sky The Bottom Line

Y Market Cloudy Yellow Sky is an exceptionally well-made beer and hits all the right spots.
