It was a sad day for BeerTengoku when August Beer Club ‘B’ Hiroo closed down in 2015 – cheap ¥500 large glasses of beer and decent food taken away from us which left us with even less choice for happy hour beers in Hiroo. The owners kept encouraging us to get to August Beer Club though with time and what seems to be a plethora of new bars opening up monthly, getting there was always going to be a problem. Luckily, I was trekking back from Hiroo to Roppongi and had some time to kill and a friend to meet. Whipping out the, ahem shameless plug coming up, BeerTengoku Craft Beer Bar map, off I went.

August Beer Club is the flagship store for the August Beer range, which is brewed at Gotemba Kogen in Shizuoka, and even sells some special limited edition beers from other Japanese craft beer companies from across Japan. Without wanting to rehash the August Beer Club ‘B’ Hiroo review, the beers on tap at August Beer Club are generally the same along with prices. The drinks come in three different sizes, and depending on the type of beer, different glasses as well; small (270ml), regular (330-400ml) and large (473-568ml). Prices are decent enough, small is ¥550-¥600, regular ¥650-¥780, and large ¥900-¥1100. There is also a happy hour from Monday to Friday 17:00 to 19:00 where all beers are ¥150.

The selling point at August Beer Club for me is the pizza. With an in-house pizza oven, there is a plethora of choice available and they even accommodate those who prefer to choose their own toppings as well. All of the pizzas are Napoli style, so thin, crispy and scalding hot when they come out of the oven.
August Beer Club One Paragraph Review
August Beer Club isn’t the most convenient place to get to and with Craft Beer Bar Ant ‘N’ Bee around the corner, it’s hard to recommend it in comparison. Still, it’s open from lunch for pizza and beer which is good enough for me. If you can get down there for happy hour too, then you are in for some decent beer and food along with some friendly chat with the staff. The main problem with this place? It allows smoking inside. You have been warned.

How to Get to August Beer Club
The closest station to August Beer Club is Tokyo Metro Roppongi station that is on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya and Oedo lines. Take exit 1b and turn left. Walk away from the station until you come to a McDonalds on your left. Take the road immediately after it and walk straight. August Beer Club is on the right.
