Loco Tangerine Trip by Locobeer

Loco Tangerine Trip is a 5.5% saison from Locobeer that contains locally sourced Fukure oranges. If that sounds familiar to you, then it should as the Hitachino Nest DAi DAi Ale also contains the same oranges. Loco Tangerine Trip is an autumn seasonal beer that was first on sale from August 2015  and can be found in bottled form at the moment. I haven’t come across it on draught form though.

No trippiness in this beer. A shame…

Loco Tangerine Trip Aroma and Taste

Locobeer is a brewery that I’ve been meaning to try for a while now though it’s pretty difficult to find their beers outside of the brewery online store and Loco Tangerine Trip is a perfect example of that. I had heard good things about it but unfortunately missed out on it at the Autumn Keyaki Beer Festival – even the bottle shop at the event didn’t have it in stock.

Loco Tangerine Trip poured out a light golden colour with no discernable head on top besides a thin white ring around the edge of the glass. Most saisons I’ve had have been the opposite, which a large, opulent head on top. There was a pleasant bitter smell coming through, I guess from the oranges along with a sweet maltiness too. If you want hops, then you’ve come to the wrong craft beer I’m afraid.

Drinking Loco Tangerine Trip was a peculiar experience – it’s definitely a saison with its estery taste and spicy kick to it but the bitterness from the oranges came through strongly and produced a weird tinge on my tongue. It was also quite light and easy drinking, making me wish I had bought two bottles now instead of just the one. Loco Tangerine Trip finished off slightly bitter but a nice bitter.

Loco Tangerine Trip One Line Review

Loco Tangerine Trip is a good effort to introduce a spin on the range of saison beers though could do with being smoother.
