Kamakura Prime Beer Tsukiyo no Niji, which is part of the Kamakura Prime range, is 5.5% English pale from Kamakura Beer. It was randomly discovered after a trip to Mokichi in Fujisawa when Joe and myself went for a nice unromantic walk along the river down to, ahem, KY Liquor. Turns out that this is only sold during holiday periods though when those periods are, who knows?!
Kamakura Prime Beer Tsukiyo no Niji Aroma and Taste
After trying to find some information about Kamakura Prime Beer Tsukiyo no Niji, I was not sure if I had picked up a bad bottle or something had been labelled by accident. Previous iterations have been stouts but it seemed that the beer has undergone a redesign and come out a pale ale. How they heck that was figured out I’ll never know. Which meant that my ideas for this beer had gone out of the window. How can you review a stout when it is not a stout?! Perhaps this had been labelled up wrong as the Kamakura Prime Beer Hoshi no Taiga is also a pale ale! What is going on here?!
Kamakura Prime Beer Tsukiyo no Niji, well this version anyway, is an English pale ale and taking that into account, it succeeds quite well in doing that. With a golden honey colour body and larger frothy white head that turned out to be REALLY frothy, it comes across as an appetising beer. There was a wee bit of malt to the aroma and some sweetness but it was not overpowering nor offensive.
Most pale ales, if not all, remind me of my granddad serving up warm pints whenever we went to his house and this beer is no exception as it does get better as it warms up. Just. The malt was more pronounced in the body though Kamakura Prime Beer Tsukiyo no Niji does have some medicinal, syrupy stuff going on. It finished off as it started: malty, with those medicinal flavours never subsiding.
Kamakura Prime Beer Tsukiyo no Niji One Line Review
Kamakura Prime Beer Tsukiyo no Niji seems to follow the majority of the Kamakura Beer range: they’re ok and drinkable but overpriced for what they are.
Where to Buy Kamakura Prime Beer Tsukiyo no Niji
Kamakura Prime Beer Tsukiyo no Niji can be bought from the Kamakura Beer homepage here. We did see it on sale at World Gourmet in Yokohama as well though as its part of a limited edition range, we don’t think it will be on sale for very long.
