Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout has a Russian imperial stout as its base and espresso beans added during the boil. There are also four malts added as well to the beer.
Another beer for the morning under the guise of a caffeine hit.
Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout Aroma and Taste
Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout pours out a thick black colour with a brown frothy head. The consistency reminded me of those Turkish coffees that are so thick your spoon will stand upright in it. There is no masking of the aroma either. Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout has bold aromas of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, and cocoa. It’s a little overwhelming at first but the aromas blend well together.
Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout tastes, well, like a stout infused with coffee. That seems a bit of a copout of an answer. The addition of the espresso beans give it a much more bitter taste than the usual Russian imperial stout. With the roasted bite as well, the beer is nice when it is served slightly warmer than usual rather than chilled. The chocolate and vanilla aromas are present in the aftertaste that reminded me of that bitter, creamy twang after a good espresso.
