Miyajima Pale Ale : Background
Miyajima Pale Ale is a 5% English pale ale from Miyajima Beer, based on the island of Miyajima, in Hiroshima. It’s part of their regular line-up, and is available in both cans and in bottles, as well as being found on draught. It uses uses hops and water from the “Reiki Shui” found in the primal forests of Miyajima and Yayama, though like other beers from Miyajima Beer, it’s unknown at the time of writing what hops went into the making of it.

Miyajima Pale Ale : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Miyajima Pale Ale poured out an orange-brown colour with miniscule amount of head on top that literally dissipated away before I even had the chance to take a picture, leaving just a thin layer of bubbles on top.
The aroma from the get-go was your classic English pale ale aroma – a strong floral nose, with some light mustiness present, alongside a slight malty aroma that was bready and had a hint of caramel to it. Miyajima Pale Ale didn’t deviate from that at all during warming and was one-dimensional in that aspect.
The body had more of a malt presence to it than the nose suggested but it was actually the bitterness that struck me first. I didn’t detect any in the nose. On the other hand, it was punchier in the body than I was led to believe. The floral hoppy flavour followed soon after, with some more of the maltiness lingering too. The malts brought a bready, caramel flavour to the beer, with them leaving a slight stickiness on the palate.
Miyajima Pale Ale : The Bottom Line
Miyajima Pale Ale is solid English pale ale but in this day and age, are many people actually looking for an English pale ale to drink?
