Setouchi Lush : Background
Setouchi Lush is a 7% West Coast IPA From Setouchi Beer, based in Takamatsu, Kagawa. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, with this being part of their “Island and Wave” line up. The main hops used in the making of this beer are Loral, Chinook, Cryo Citra, and Centennial with the last two being in the form of Citra incognito and Centennial incognito hop extracts.

Setouchi Lush : Appearance
Light golden straw colour with a slight chill haze to the body. Large amount of frothy white head on top that left some streaks down the side of the glass.
Setouchi Lush : Aroma
Modern West Coast IPA aroma of citrus notes – lots of grapefruit and lemon – alongside a touch of tropical aroma too – mango and pineapple. No noticeable old school aromas – so those wanting a dank and resinous beer will be left disappointed. Light sweetness to the body, soothing and balanced with none of the in-house aromas that affected the earlier beers from Setouchi Beer.
Setouchi Lush : Taste
Nice balance with the citrus and tropical flavours intermingling with one another. Wanted some dank notes to come through but very much a modern West Coast IPA. Light bitterness throughout drinking that threatens to get bolder, but doesn’t and is more of a supportive flavour. Medium mouthfeel with some stickiness on the palate that helps the hop flavours linger through.
Setouchi Lush : The Bottom Line
Colour me surprised – I’ve finally find a beer from Setouchi Beer that I’ve enjoyed and is well made.
