Background
Yumegaoka Sunday Brewing is a brewery located in Yumegaoka – a suburb of Yokohama, Kanagawa. The brewery opened in August 2024 and also incorporates a taproom on the same site. The brewery takes its name from the idea of people feeling relaxed, as if it were a Sunday, when they drink. The brewery was created by Swivel and Knot Co., Ltd. (Musashino City), which also operates 26K Brewery under the elevated tracks near Musashi-Sakai Station.
In addition, their plan is to collaborate with the local social welfare organization “Kairukai” to try brewing beer with people with disabilities for the first time in the area. In addition to creating employment opportunities through beer, Yumegaoka Sunday Brewing will also collaborate on cultivating hops, which are the raw material for beer. In February 2024, they planted hops to develop an original beer that will become a local specialty. hey are also considering drying the malt residue left over from brewing beer and using it as an ingredient in bread making. This initiative is also connected to “sustainability,” one of Yumegaoka Soratos’ themes.
The motif of the baku was chosen to evoke the image of a person having pleasant dreams. This is based on the baku which usually is a mythical creature from Chinese and Japanese folklore, often described as a nightmare-eating beast. The bar is designed so that the brewing tanks can be seen from the aisles, and the aim is to create a brewery that is casual and easy for families to enter.
