Background
Ōmishima Brewery is a craft beer brewery and brewpub on Ōmishima Island in Ehime Prefecture, part of the Shimanami Kaidō route. It is run by a married couple who came from “Minoh Beer” and relocated to Ōmishima to set this up. Located just a short walk from Oyamazumi Shrine, one of Japan’s oldest and most revered shrines, the brewery is housed in a lovingly restored traditional Japanese home – wood beams, sliding doors, and all – that radiates warmth and authenticity.
It’s also a favorite stop for cyclists tackling the Shimanami Kaidō, offering a relaxed rest spot with snacks, soft drinks, and friendly conversation with the owners themselves. While Ōmishima Brewery’s beers aren’t widely distributed, that’s part of the charm – you have to make the journey to taste them at their freshest.
