Good Hops Festival Saison : Background
Good Hops Festival Saison is a 5% saison from Good Hops based in Tono, Iwate. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. Good Hops Festival Saison is brewed using locally grown Ibuki and Saaz hops, with German Hersbrucker also being used. Finally, this is the final installment in their “Festival” series so I suspect that this is a limited edition beer, so don’t be surprised if it is sold out at the time of reading.

Good Hops Festival Saison : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Good Hops Festival Saison poured out a slightly cloudy golden straw colour with a thick white head on top that consisted of some medium and large bubbles. Those bubbles though dissipated away to leave a thin layer on top though there was barely any lacing on the beer.
The aroma from the beer was musty and not phenolic, like I was hoping for. I’m not a fan of Ibuki hops to be honest, and I find them to be used just to tick off the “we’re using local hops”. The beer didn’t really get going on the aroma part and ended up firing blanks.
The body faced the same problem – just nothing really of note going on that resembled a saison. Well, perhaps for the dryish body there was not much else going on.
Good Hops Festival Saison : The Bottom Line
A lacklustre beer that isn’t undrinkable, but just doesn’t match the style.
