Streetlight NZHZ : Background

Streetlight NZHZ is a 6% hazy IPA from Streetlight Brewing, based in Sapporo, Hokkaido. It’s part of their limited lineup, and can be found in both cans and on draught at the time of writing. Streetlight NZHZ is brewed using NZ Waiti and American Comet and Amarillo. The beer takes its name from brewing a New Zealand Hazy beer, and while that isn’t a “defined” style, it’s a fun play on words.

Streetlight NZHZ : Appearance

A hazy golden colour with a massive amount of froth on top, in spite of being stored in a fridge since purchase. That was one lively beer.

Streetlight NZHZ : Aroma

Big citrus aroma of lemon and lime, with a touch of orange present as it warms up. Some tropical notes were also found, though rather muted. A touch of pineapple and maybe, just maybe, a touch of mango. Medium sweetness from the malts were also present.

Streetlight NZHZ : Taste

Medium bitterness that fades to citrus and tropical notes during drinking. Mouthfeel was rather sticky and a bit tacky though the hop flavour cut through it. In terms of sweetness, the malt was present with some creaminess – had they used oats – but no noticeable off flavours.

Streetlight NZHZ : The Bottom Line

Streetlight NZHZ is a decent hazy IPA – just a shame it’s a one off.
