Mangosteen Hug Juice 2025 : Background
Mangosteen Hug Juice 2025 is a 5% coffee saison from Mangosteen Brewing Lab, based in Hokuto, Yamanashi. It’s part of their limited edition lineup, and is available in both cans and on draught. For the 2025 edition, the brewery used Guatemala Finca Roma – though I have no idea what they are in reality – however how the beans were used was unusual. Most breweries will step the beer with the beans but for this one, they quickly cooled the liquid extracted coffee to prevent oxidation and blended it with beer that had already been fermented.

Mangosteen Hug Juice 2025 : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
First and foremost, I was surprised with the colour of this beer. I was honestly expecting Mangosteen Hug Juice 2025 to be a lot darker than it was. Instead, it poured out slightly light honey colour with no indication that coffee had been used in the beer.
Again, I was expecitng a big hit of coffee to begin with. Yet instead, I got some peachy phenols from the yeast and a light spiciness as well. It was only when Mangosteen Hug Juice 2025 had warmed up a tad that the unmistakeable aroma of coffee notes began to come through. It wasn’t a bold coffee aroma, but it was well balanced against the saison yeast notes present throughout.
There was a sour note to the body though – probably from the coffee. Paired alongside this was the same peachy phenols from the yeast, and a light coffee note, punctuated by a dry body with some notes of malt sweetness. Mangosteen Hug Juice 2025 was nicely balanced during drinking, with neither the saison flavour nor the coffee notes dominating over one another at all.

An interesting take on a saison and Mangosteen Hug Juice 2025 is one that I’d like to try again.
