Omishima Brewery : The Bottom Line
There are no other craft beer breweries on the island, so it’s not like you really have a choice if you want some craft beer. Though Omishima Brewery doesn’t let you drink on site if you’re cycling, it’s still a lovely, little place to pick up some beers to takeaway back to the hotel. If you are staying in Omishima, then definitely get on down, though the narrow style of beers on tap might not be to the excitement of those looking for something new and hip. The whole place is non-smoking and has no table charge either. Just be warned though, there’s no food on besides some snacks.

Omishima Brewery : Background
Located on the scenic approach to the ancient Oyamazumi Shrine on Omishima Island, Omishima Brewery is the only place on the island for you to get some craft beer. It’s location on the main street that runs down from the shrine means it’s an easy find as you walk around the wonderful old town. Housed in a renovated traditional Japanese house, the unique charm of it is visible both on the inside and the outside. The owners originally started out working at Minoh Beer before opening up this brewery in April 2018, and the bar opening later that same year.
Omishima Brewery : Atmosphere & Interior
As you approach the outside of Omishima Brewery, there is a small seating area out the front with space for six people, though it’s a bit cramped, what with the entrance to the brewery being right there. Moreover, it’s also where the bike rack is for people cycling in.
Inside, there is space for around 20 people, with some seating at the front of the bar, and also a small tatami room at the back that can house around 12 people on zafutons. The whole place is non-smoking and there is no table charge. For those wanting to post pictures to Instagram of their cycle, their is also some free wifi that you can use, with the details on the big beer menu on the wall.

Omishima Brewery : Beer & Tap Information
Omishima Brewery has five taps on, all dedicted to their own beers, with a varying range of styles on – though they might not be to everyone’s taste. No hazy beers or or anything dark it seems. The beers come in two sizes : half (240 ml) from ¥600 and large (470 ml) from ¥1000. Some of the limited edition or special beers do come with an extra cost, but those costs are written on the menu. There is also a takeaway option for beers, with 500 ml plastic bottles at ¥900 and plastic cups of around 360 ml from ¥700. There’s no all you can drink plan nor any option for a beer flight.
As I was in the middle of a cycle, I couldn’t drink in the bar, with the owners showing me a sign in English about drinking and riding being illegal in Japan. Moreover, with a police station literally across the road, it’s not worth the hassle of finding out.
Omishima Brewery : Food & Menu Information
Just some simple snacks on at Omishima Brewery as there’s no kitchen. You can bring in your own food to eat though it’s recommended to sit outside if you can. Tax is included in all of the prices listed on the menus; however, none of the menus had any English on them and it’s cash only at the bar so bring plenty with you.
